With soft hues and less contrast playing into the market, it’s no surprise that texture is so important to us this year. Layering is all the rage in current home decor trends, but the materials may surprise you. Pretty much anything organic goes, so expect to see emerging textures ranging from organic boucle fabrics to tightly woven burlaps and linens. Although velvet has been out on minds the last year, terra cotta textures are shifting to the forefront showing that hard surfaces can still give us visual comfort.
Ceramics are always one of my favorite types of home decor to guess trend predictions. This year look for organic patterns and textures giving the look of handmade pieces. Unusual shapes and patterns will easily come into play, and colors will remain warm and inviting. Woodgrain ceramics are emerging with hints of metallic finishes. Matte finishes are still dominating the market, but an interesting mix of matte and high sheens combined give off a lovely contrast for high-end-looking pieces.
Just like art, home decor pieces and finishes are subjective so go with your gut on this one! If you love how it looks – and feels! – it’s going to fit your own unique personal style.
