The cottagecore craze has begun! But what is this blended and oh so confusing trend in homes? The meaning of Cottagecore is extracted from the two words composing the term: cottage and core. The prefix cottage describes a country house or a small village house. Yup. We get that. The word core relates to the 80’s word “hardcore” which referred to the punk music scene and is used to delineate a new category or genre. So basically small cute house that is hardcore cool and trendy.
Get it? Good.
As both a home design style and a lifestyle, cottagecore is about simplicity, comfort, self-reliance, and personal freedom. I like the sound of that! This romantic, nature-driven design trend calls for cozy spaces decorated with rustic touches and furnished with everything you need to lead a happy and productive lifestyle. I like to think of cottagecore as living outside at a perfect 72 degrees year-round with lots of lovely plants and absolutely no bugs. Soooo… the perfect life outdoors. Just take all those happy sunshine feelings and bring them inside, and that’s cottagecore.
Starting in fashion (rural life billowy skirls and headscarves) cottage core is quickly becoming the most popular trend for younger generations. The ability for this trend to be both modern and eclectic is certainly a plus. My favorite thing about cottagecore? This trend is both easy and affordable to create, and most likely you already have pieces you can incorporate at home.
